Daily Devotional 1-21 Goal Reaching goals requires effort on our part. A goal is always in the future. As soon as we reach a goal, we set another one. We are constantly reaching out for fulfillment. A fanatic is a person who, having lost sight of his goal, redoubles his effort to get there. A man lacking vision and adaptability looks only for applause. A man with a goal seeks instruction and help. In the Christian life there is an upward call. We are going somewhere. We are moving forward. Progress is a necessity in a victorious Christian life. Jesus says that we are to seek first, the kingdom of God and His righteousness. The New Testament word that is used here for first does not only mean first in a series of many things. Rather the word carries the force of priority. A more accurate translation would be, “Seek ye first, above all else, the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” Paul, the apostle, says in Philippians 3:13 “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” To help us to grow to maturity, the Holy Spirit assists us in three areas. As the Spirit of grace, he will bear witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. As the Spirit of wisdom, he will teach us God’s Word and bring it to our mind when Satan attacks with his lies. As the Spirit of power, he will enable us to overcome the enemy of our soul and to accomplish the will of God in our life. God, who started all things in the beginning has a goal for His people. When He created man, God said, “Let us make man in our image.” Our goal is to be the person God wants us to be. Christ is our example and the Holy Spirit assists us. We look ahead for the day when we hear Christ say, “Well done. Come, my beloved, enter the kingdom which my Father has prepared for you.”
